I am wondering what size material would be suitable to make these out of. It appears that the crosshairs are attached by four small screws just inside the ocular piece.
That would be more better for the do it yourselfer as the old cook used to say. 1 I guy I know has a couple of scopes, one is a Unertl 20X and the other is Litschert 8x. If I had to do it over again, I think I would lay out the 20 bucks or so for 10 feet of some of the 0005 or 0015 tungsten wire that a guy sells on Ebay.
I thought perhaps color of the material might be an issue, but appeared black like I wanted just one of those mysteries. Still is in place, so cannot complain too much. So I took the rear of the scope apart and removed the part that houses the reticle. I was always afraid of loosing the anti-fog charge, but then a more enlightened guy told me not to worry about such, guess they never had any in some of their scopes. I bought an old Unertl scope that had a drooping horizontal wire in the reticle.
